It's Friday, I'm a Judge! Traditional Collectability #7

Welcome back to another Friday judging clinic! Let's talk traditional collectability today.

This week, we're concentrating specifically on Regular Run collectability. This is an area I often think gets overlooked at shows, at least in the regions I show in, where most everything is double judged! In those cases, it's really easy to pick a top six without even considering the regular runs on the table. So, today we'll be looking at how to evaluate regular runs against each other - particularly atypical examples of the run. 

Horse A: Hwin - Regular Run - 2017-2019 - Chalky variation

Horse B: Sweetwater's Zorah Belle - Regular Run - 2023-current - Chalky variation

Horse C: Bet Your Blue Boons - Regular Run - 2009-2011

Think carefully - how would you place this class? Keep in mind the collectability judging criteria - age, rarity, desirability, and condition. 

The Placings:

🥇1st: Horse C - Bet Your Blue Boons

In first place, I pinned Bet Your Blue Boons. Of the three models in this class, she is the oldest. Not only that, but the late 2000s through early 2010s regular runs tend to be sought after due to the perceived quality of their finishwork. Due to her age and desirability, Bet Your Blue Boons is an easy first place. 

🥈2nd: Horse A - Chalky Hwin

In second place, we have the chalky Hwin. The chalky variation popped up near the end of Hwin's run, mostly on the models sold at Tractor Supply. She's a relatively scarce variation, but the Forever Saige mold is not nearly as popular as the Roxy mold, and she definitely pales in comparison to the hold the late 2000s and early 2010s regular runs have on the hobby.  

🥉3rd: Horse B - Chalky Sweetwater's Zorah Belle

The chalky Sweetwater's Zorah Belle is my third place pin. While the Fjord is a more popular mold than Forever Saige, she's a model that is still in production. Additionally, unlike the chalky Hwin, a significant portion of the run is chalky - in fact I'd say the chalky variation might be the common version of the run now, though the degree to which each model is chalky varies. The model in this class is very heavily basecoated, but others of the run may have basecoated tails but not chalky bodies. Either way, she's still very obtainable at this point, so she ends up in third.
